Installation - Work in Progress

This work is currently in progress. It's a collage made up of various small laser cut wood pieces. Each piece is a different pattern, design, size, material, wood, tone, laser setting, or additional finish, meaning every single piece is completely unique! It has allowed me to design, make and experiment without rules or restrictions, which I believe is important as a creative. Once I've created more, I'll begin stitching them all together to create a large installation! (To be continued)

Artist in Residence Work - 2018

The Artist in residency programme has been invaluable to me as an artist and designer maker, giving me a studio space in a creative environment enabling me to develop my practice, refine my skills and to finalise a product range ready to sell to the public.

Cube Collection – 2017

This collection follows on from my materials and processes collection, taking the most interesting combinations of materials and processes, and combining design and form into a collection of decorative cubes. These are based off drawings from my University Sketchbook, replicated on computer design software, either laser cut or 3D printed in a different materials, and constructed, often with an additional finish applied. These are purely decorative objects, which have led to my more functional work created in my Artist in Residency.

Cube Light Prototypes – 2017

These were the first cubes i created for prototype purposes. Experimenting with photography to create different monochrome tones and contrasts, i added lighting to add function to these decorative pieces. These were then developed into the 'Cube Collection' above.

Samples Collection -  Materials & Processes – 2017

This collection is an experimentation into materials, processes and finishes. The original collection is of 98 pieces, with some exhibitions showing a selection of 36. Variations include; hand cut papers, laser cut woods, 3D printed brass infused steel, gold plated copper, wax casts, plastic and stitch, and much more! I found this project of exploration enjoyable and succeeded in creating new interesting finishes which has influenced my later work.

Pattern Drawings - 2017

Here I used a range of inks, gels, paints and pens to create repetitive mark making on various plain, treated, marbled, dyed and collaged papers. Drawing is always my starting point to a project and also plays a big part in its development. Some drawings are very geometric and controlled, whilst others have a natural flow.

Negotiated Project - 2016

I began this project by comparing my 'imperfect' geometric drawings, Spirograph patterns, and 'perfect' computer generated designs. This project was based on comparing and combining traditional handmade techniques with new technologies. The techniques and process used vary from; CAD drawings, 3D paper models, screen printed felt, stitch & wood, hand cut paper, string art, laser cut coated acrylic and 3D printing. The collection consisted of 70 pieces displayed as a floor installation. Each piece is unique, gradually transitioning in design & tone (horizontally), with varying shape & form, material & process (vertically). With so many variations, the monochrome colour scheme and neat grid format links all the pieces together.
